Iran Ministry of Roads and Urban Development hosted Mobashar Jawad M.J. Akbar, Indian Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs and his delegates of Ambassador Saurabh Kumar and Mr. Arun Kumar Gupta, the Managing Director of India Ports Global Pvt. Ltd. (IPGL) on September 11, 2016.
In this meeting, Akhoundi emphasized on the role of India in participating with Iran to operationalize transit corridors particularly the North-South Transport Corridor and to activate multi-modal transport corridors subject of Chabahar Transit Agreement between Iran, India and Afghanistan. He also called on using full potentials of the two countries to develop transit corridors.
Further, Iran expressed his readiness to increase transfer of freight and minerals from Afghanistan to India through Iran namely Chabahar Port, Oman Sea and the Persian Gulf.
Also mutual agreements between the two countries including development plans of Chabahar Port, the Chabahar-Zahedan Railway and the progress of the contract to purchase 150 thousands rail from India were reviewed.
At the end, Iran declared his readiness to travel to India in order to prepare and formulate the mechanism to operationalize trilateral Chabahar Transit Agreement.
Chabahar Transit Agreement, as an important regional transport agreement, was signed between Iran-India-Afghanistan on September 12, 2016. According to this multi-modal transport agreement, India can transit its commercial freights through Chabahar Port, Milk, Mahirood and Dogharoon borders that enhance trade and geographic development.
